eca-chat-window-side is a customizable variable defined in eca-chat.el.

Where the ECA chat window should appear.

Can be left', right', top', bottom', or nil. When nil, a chat that is not already visible on the selected frame opens in the selected window. A visible chat on that frame remains in its existing window. Dedicated and minibuffer windows cannot be reused. Otherwise, eca-chat-use-side-window controls whether the chat uses a dedicated side window or a regular directional window.
